The STORY OF THE STORYTELLERS, a THREAD: Why humanity is intrinsically irrational? From as early as anyone can tell, humans have made sense of the world through stories. The homo sapiens is a crafter, teller, and believer of narrative.
As time went on, humans began to consider new stories. They invented evermore precise methods of hypothesizing, testing, and measuring. They created a new way of making sense of the world: reason. Science was born.
Humans applied science to their ancient myths. In turn, they showed that their old stories were unprovable. Science could not quantify the gods. Rational inquiry undermined mythology.
But humans could not cease to tell stories. So they began telling new stories... about science. Just as scientific inquiry had undermined their ancient myths, scientific inquiry now inspired a new myth. It was a myth about human potential.
Humans imagined how more knowledge would make their existence safer, richer, and fuller. ”The more knowledge we possess, the better humanity will be.” The story presented a purpose. “The point of history must be that we become the best individuals and species that we can!”
But there was a problem. The more knowledge humans acquired, the less evident it became that humanity actually had any goal or purpose at all.
Like their ancient myths, they looked to their discoveries and inventions to give them a sense of direction, purpose, and vision, but their science insisted that there was actually no purpose for human existence.
They realized that the “realization of human potential” was just another myth – another story they made up.
Humans cannot live without meaning, even when they invent ways of disproving the existence of meaning itself. In fact, humans even tell stories about how they can’t live without stories. Like this one. This is just another story that they tell themselves.
You see, there is no such thing as a completely rational human being. Every one of them gives themselves a sense of meaning by telling a story that lives outside of reason and science. Why?
Because reason and science can only prove to them that there is no ultimate meaning. They cannot somehow leave their myths behind to exclusively follow science – science tells them that they are accidents.
Man cannot live by rationality alone. Therefore, nothing is more irrational than the belief that humanity will one day gloriously rise from the dust of superstition and religion. Humanity without mythology is a mythology.
You will never convince them that the purpose of their existence is to have no purpose. In this colliding kaleidoscope of narratives, doctrines, and ideologies, behold the essential kernel of the human condition: raw, fantastic, irrational belief.
If you can’t accept their mythologies, you can’t accept their humanity. Perhaps the greatest mythology of all is the belief that humans can live without mythology. And perhaps the ones who believe this myth are the most irrational of them all. Everyone needs a story.
For those poor folks that didn't read my awesome 10k word series on "Actuating Schism" here is the short version as it pertains to the mass. The last 5.5 years has been about cutting off all avenues of escape... https://t.co/ZnnylKGyft
This whole ‘Kate Osamor lives in social housing’ furore reminds me of how much this world loves to control black people. The institutional racism that pervades society can be seen on both the left and right. And the way it manifests itself on either side is also interesting.
#GreatAwakening #QAnon @qanon76 @RealEyeTheSpy @RealEyeSpy Something is up. 1/6. Obama tweets a picture from 2014 and passes it off as a 2018 Christmas tweet https://t.co/7l1bkjsewO https://t.co/Q4lWF0SKll
I believe in new beginnings. Not just New Year’s resolutions. I’m talking real live fresh starts. An abiding, overcoming, effective, fulfilling life in Christ isn’t an accident. I say this with earnestness & affection: we can’t just do the same thing & expect something different.
Merry Christmas everyone, let's talk about SimCity on the NES. Today we published the results of about a year of research on this unreleased Nintendo work, and uploaded relevant files - including the game - to the Internet Archive. You should take a look! https://t.co/HmvWYy3sXy https://t.co/yhm6OJvqaw
Short thread on the basic finance mistake the defenders of Chinese overseas lending make. First, there is the implied belief that there is a shortage of global capital and all the poor countries China invests in should be thankful to Xi. To anyone in finance 1/n
Gonna go ahead and guess that a number of you did not accomplish all that you hoped to accomplish in 2018, and I'm here to tell you, that's okay. 2018 was the year that took ten years, a time-warp mind-fuck of a year that felt less like a calendar and more like a circus mirror.
